The Down Survey (1655-6) map records a 'castle' in this general area, but the map scale does not allow for a precise location to be determined. This is probably the same 'castle' identified in the OSL in 1837 (Herity 2002, 39) as being, according to local tradition, in Royaloak Townland, but 'none of it now remains'. However, current local tradition places the 'castle' in Calf Field townland to the NW (KD001-007----). The exact location of this monument is unknown.
