What is recorded here

On a slight rise in hilly grassland. This well-preserved D-shaped graveyard (c. 45m E-W) with straight (L c. 65m) NNW-SSE side is enclosed by a mortared stone wall with access at W. It contains mainly 19th- and 20th-century headstones but older burials are indicated by inscribed graveslabs and uninscribed grave-markers. A well (GA132-013002-) lies c. 50m to the N and there is a mound barrow (GA132-033----) c. 40m to the WNW; a 'friary' (GA132-013003-) is said to have been located at the latter monument(O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 2, 515). A holy bush (GA132-013004-) is also associated. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 10 January 2020
