This monument came to light during the course of fieldwork on the AranLIFE Farming Project (2014-2018) (see www.aranlife.ie). It is on level ground in the centre of the island. It consists of a grass-covered well-defined mound (14.3m NE-SW; 10.45m E-W) which is horse-shoe shaped in plan and occupies almost the full width of the N half of the field in which it is located. A collapsed field wall runs across it from E to W. The mound opens to the WNW (Wth 7.5m). It is highest and steepest at N (H 1.6m); at S it is more gently rounded in profile (H 1.4m at SW). While the appearance of the mound is suggestive of a fulacht fia, it is more likely to be the remains of a settlement mound, possibly a round house. Another mound (GA120-037----) lies c. 45m to the SW.
