What is recorded here

In flat pastureland. Named 'Convent in ruins' on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map and 'Convent (Site of)' on the 1946 revision. According to Gwynn and Hadcock (1970, 232), the Dominican's of Portumna settled here in the early 18th century. No visible surface trace of their establishment survives, the area is now occupied by outhouses and a sileage pit. According to local information, the Dominicans then built and moved into Boula House, which is c. 50m to the SSE, and remained there until relatively recently.
