In the list of castles in Galway, compiled in 1574, is one at 'Tynnaghe' in the barony of Leitrim, then in the possession of 'The Bishop of Clonfert' (Nolan 1901, 111). This is probably a variation of the townlandd name 'Tynagh', suggesting that the castle stood somewhere in the vicinity of the modern village of Tynagh. Not located.
