What is recorded here

In rough level pastureland. Marked on the OS 6-inch maps as a subrectangular enclosure (c. 35m N-S; c. 25m E-W) planted with trees. On inspection in October 1982 it was completely overgrown and access was almost impossible. However, traces of a circular stone wall (Wth c. 2.5m) built of large limestone blocks were visible. Possibly a cashel but it may also have been a designed landscape feature associated with Lime Park demesne. Aerial photography (Osi digitalglobe) indicates that it has since been cleared away and no visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 11 April 2019
