What is recorded here

In farmland. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 214-15, no. 75) as a circular ‘Stone fort’ (diam. c. 47.2m) defined by a drystone wall. No visible surface trace survives of it or of the associated ‘Souterrain’ marked on 3rd ed. of OS map (1933). The cashel was probably cleared away in the early 1970s when this area was bulldozed (information from Prof. Rynne). Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 3 January 2017
