What is recorded here

Some 100m to the E of St Brendan’s Cathedral (GA101-017001-). This grassed-over horseshoe-shaped mound of earth and stone (8m E-W; 7.8m N-S: H 1.55m) opens to the N. According to local tradition, four bishops were buried here and each one was commemorated by a large beech tree flanking the mound. Three of the trees survive at NW, NE and SE (pers. comm. C. Cunniffe). Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 23 July 2019
