Built on the line of the NE wall of the inner bawn (GA095-028001-) surrounding 'Derrydonnell Castle' (GA095-028----), this rectangular building (max. dims. c. 12m NE-SW; c. 8m NW-SE) is partially levelled; its NE half is best preserved. Robbed-out opposing doorways are visible in the NW and SE walls. The interior is covered with rubble. Cody (1989, 366) noted that the position of the building, at a point where it would have blocked the covering fire from the N side of the E angle tower, indicated that it was of later date than the castle. He further noted that the presence of a large rectangular window ope in the SE wall contrasted sharply with 'the security consciousness evidenced by the narrow loops of the tower-house' (ibid.)
