What is recorded here

In gently undulating pastureland. Holt (1912, 226, no. 42) refers to 'a souterrain [GA095-019001-], under a bush near the roadside, with some traces of the foundations of a caher wall'. According to the landowner, the field was cleared of rock in the 1950s during land reclamation. While he did not recall the 'stone fort', the souterrain was filled in and covered with rubble at that time. Its site is marked by some clearance rubble around the base of an elder bush. No visible surface trace of the cashel survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 6 September 2018
