On the east side of Abbeygate Street Upper, just off Galway's main street, Shop Street. A commercial three-storey, rectangular building (c. 13m NE-SW; c. 6m NW-SE) with a small two-storey extension to the rear. A substantial internal cross-wall containing a chimney subdivides the building into a larger front two-thirds with a smaller third behind. In the course of recent renovations, the remains of a decorated stone fireplace was uncovered at first floor-level. The fireplace has a large keystone which bears the arms of the Blake and French families (pers. comm. Dr. Jim Higgins 18-06-2015) together with a truncated date of 162_. Corbel stones carry wooden beams at first and second floor-levels to support the floors above. The fenestration on the façade has been altered but traces of earlier window jamb stones survive in some reveals.
