What is recorded here

Across the River Corrib in the area upstream from Eglington Pier, to N of the medieval town of Galway (GA094-100----) and the modern centre of the city. The discovery of a number of stray finds from this section of the river, including a number of 16th-17th-C swords and at least four baselard knives, suggests the existence of a crossing point here in late medieval times. No visible surface traces survive. (Rynne 1984, 23, 25) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
