What is recorded here

On the WSW shore of Ardfry Oyster Pond. This irregular limestone slab (H 1.5m: Wth 0.9m; T 0.4m) tapers towards the top and is aligned E-W. Its proximity to Ardfry House, which stands c. 250m to the SW, suggests that it is most likely landscape feature or folly associated with the house. It was probably erected in the late 18th or early 19th century (Gosling 1986, 23). (McCaffrey 1952, 119, no. 29a) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 13 December 2019
