On seashore some 30m NE of a chapel (GA090-019----). Known locally as 'Caisleán', it is a small grassy knoll, the E side of which is a vertical rock face (H c. 3m) overlooking a small stream. Abundant traces of limestone mortar are visible in the soil (where disturbed), and towards top of the rock face, but no masonry was noted. Possibly the site of a castle, from which the locality, i.e. An Caisleán (and offshore rock on OS 6-inch map), takes its name (pers. comm. t. Robinson).
