What is recorded here

On a ridge in undulating grassland, probably once part of the estate of Fairfield House. This monument was evidently gone by the time of 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map whereon it is labelled as 'Site of'. All that survives are quadrangular grass-covered foundations (N-S 4m, E-W 2.5m) along with two small mounds of stone at S. Possibly the remains of a folly associated with the nearby house which lies 860m to SE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
