What is recorded here

In existence in 1574 when 'Short castle' was in the possession of 'Wm OKelly' (Nolan 1901b, 120). The OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 648) briefly refer to it 'there were three others in this parish, viz, one at Newcastle'. Its exact location is unknown and no visible surface traces were noted in the td. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'.
