What is recorded here

On a slight rise in undulating pastureland overlooking Callow Lough to NE. In existence in 1574 when it was in the possession of 'Wm OKelly' (Nolan 1901b, 120). All that survives are sections of W wall (L 16m), while a short section of a wall running off to NE may be part of the original building. The only architectural features are a plain lancet window on ground floor and a recess for corbels on 1st floor. A farmhouse with outhouses has been built to E of the wall. (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 604) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
