Wilde (1867, 69) recorded the discovery of ‘two remarkable tombstones’ in the rubbish that had accumulated under the site of the chancel arch of the church (GA069-001013-). Both were ‘broken and without inscriptions’. One was ‘an unhewn, irregularly shaped flag, 27 inches [0.68m] by 20 [0.5m], lying underneath a sycamore tree, that nearly fills the choir’, and the other, ‘bearing a fleur-de-lis ornament’ (see GA069-001021-) was visible a short distance from it. The unhewn slab was not located. See also GA069-001015-.
