St Annins Church (in ruins) — Killannin

In a graveyard on a slight ridge to the N of Ross Lake. On inspection in July 1983, both gables and the S wall of this poorly preserved medieval church (E-W; L 13.9m, Wth 6.9m), constructed of of rough undressed blocks of limestone, survived; only the E section of the N wall remained, the W end had collapsed. The doorway was located in the S wall close to the SW corner and a plain rectangular window was visible in the E gable. Standing 1m to the S of the church was the mortuary chapel of the Martin family, which contained the tomb of Major Poppelton, dated 1848. On re-inspection in March 2010, it was found that most of the ivy growing on the walls of the both buildings had died off following a local graveyard clean-up.
