What is recorded here

On a gentle W-facing slope near the centre of Ahascragh village. Marked on 1st ed. OS 6-inch map as a small rectangular church (c. 12m by c. 5m) aligned E-W, but OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 117) state that 'There is not a vestige ... of it ... to be seen'. No visible surface trace survives, apart from a very slight rise in ground level, at N end of the graveyard, which may mark its site. It may be a pre-Norman foundation associated with the local St Cuan who died in AD 788 (Gwynn and Hadcock 1970, 372). A holy well (GA061-023001-) dedicated to this saint lies c. 2.3 km to NE.
