Under the heading 'Killosolan parish', OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 243) record a tradition that 'there was a nunnery 1/4 of a mile to the S. west of Kinclare House'. There is a td. called Kinclare in the parish, immediately SW of the village of Caltra, but no house of that name is marked on OS 6-inch maps. Not located, however, the sites of two possible 'nunneries' are known in this area, in Caltra village itself (GA060-027002-) and 1.25km NE of it (GA060-026001-).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
