In undulating scrubland and rock outcrop. This Nat. Mon., a fairly well-preserved large rectangular bawn (GA057-067001-: ENE-WSW 67m, ESE-WNW 48.3m, H 1.8m) is built of undressed mortared stone. A collapsed entrance (Wth c. 1.1m) lies at ENE. There are two opposing circular turrets (D c. 2.5m) in E and W angles; that at E is best preserved and is two storeys high; five gun loops survive on both floors. A garderobe chute is visible beside it in SE wall. Five gun loops are also evident in W turret. Centrally placed within the interior are the remains of a rectangular house (GA057-067003-: NNE-SSE; L 12.2m, Wth 5.9m ext.), and near N corner the grassed-over foundation lines of associated rectangular outbuildings (GA057-067004-). The monument is surrounded by an extensive field system (GA057-067002-). (Killanin and Duignan 1967, 162; Harbison 1975, 88)
