What is recorded here

In gently undulating scrub and cragland, now partially cleared for grassland. When surveyed in 1979 (SMR file) 'at least three house sites' were noted within this notable complex of monuments that covers an area of 0.5km sq. and which included a large field system (GA056-024008-) and five cashels (GA056-024001-, GA056-024004-, GA056-024005-, GA056-024007-, GA056-024009-). One of the houses (see GA056-024006-) may be that which lies immediately to the E of the cashel (GA056-024004-); the precise location of the other two (GA056-024002-) is unknown. (ASGAP 167:81) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
