What is recorded here

On Fox Island, a small island in Crompaun Bay, which is accessible at low tide. Recorded by M. Gibbons, this midden is located on the sheltered N side of a raised area of rock outcrop with a thin covering of soil. It came to light as a result of burrowing by rats and birds. The midden material was exposed over an area of 8m by 4m and mainly comprised limpet shells but smaller amounts of winkle and dog-whelk shells were visible, as well as some burnt stone. The following image, supplied by M. Gibbons, was uploaded: GA049-032----.pdf Compiled by: Olive Alcock with information supplied by M. Gibbons Date of upload: 5 May 2023
