In undulating grassland. Excavated in 1937 (Willmot 1939, 121-40), the monument then consisted of a low earthen mound (D c. 12m) with a cairn-like core. It was surrounded by a substantial rock-cut fosse. The excavation revealed a layer of charcoal and cremated bone in the centre of the mound, beneath which was an oval pit-grave (L 0.9m, Wth 0.7m) containing the cremated remains of a male adult accompanied by a small bronze knife or razor. Four secondary unprotected skeletal burials were found in the fosse at N, one of which was accompanied by a bronze locket and twelve bone beads. A slight grassed-over mound marks the spot.
