What is recorded here

On a slight rise in gently undulating grassland. A circular ringfort (D 28m), in fair condition, defined by two banks of earth and stone and an intervening fosse. The inner bank is best preserved from W to NE and is overlain by field walls from NE to E and from SE to W. The fosse has been filled in from ENE through E to SE, and the outer bank survives only at S. There is a causeway across the fosse at SE. The td. boundary cuts the monument at NE and SW. Within the interior is a CBG (GA042-048001-) and a roughly square stone-lined hollow (L/Wth 1m sq.). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
