This island, in Lough Corrib, is the site of an early monastery reputedly founded by St Brendan the Navigator. It also contained an ancient burial ground known as 'Rathmath'. Faint foundation lines of a building, possibly a church, can be seen at NE end of the island close to the shore. It is rectangular in plan (E-W; L c. 7.6m, Wth 4.7m ext.) but no architectural features survive. This spot is still respected locally but no visible trace of the burial ground survives.
