What is recorded here

At the foot of low S-facing cliffs in rough grazing land. This burial ground, correctly Doirfn na Bruighne (pers. comm. T. Robinson), consists of a roughly rectangular unenclosed area (N-S c. 30m, E-W c. 20m), cut by a modern pathway running E-W, and delimited on N and W by modern walls. Traces of a short stretch of older wall also survive at SE. A number of small set stones and thorn trees are visible, particularly in N half of the interior, and a ruinous subcircular drystone leacht (D. 1.5m) in S half. A holy well (GA038-006----) lies c. 130m to W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
