What is recorded here

In demesne forest close to E bank of An Abhainn Mhór. Indicated on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map as a small rectangular graveyard (20.5m by 15m). Now disused, and defined by a much-collapsed drystone wall. The majority of the graves are marked by small undressed headstones but one in SW corner bears a date of 1838. There is a possibility that this graveyard may stand on the site of a medieval friary (GA036-020----). There is a holy well (GA036-008----) 70m to N. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
