What is recorded here

On a rise in rolling grassland. Poorly preserved subcircular rath (N-S 22m, E-W 16m) defined by a bank and external fosse. The bank is present intermittently from E through S to SW; elsewhere a scarp forms the enclosing element. The fosse survives from NW through N to NNE. Quarrying has encroached upon the monument at NW. In N sector of the interior is a well-preserved circular house (D 5.4m) defined by a grassed-over bank of stone with opposing entrance gaps at E and W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
