What is recorded here

On a rise in undulating grassland. Circular rath (D 37.5m), in fair condition, defined by an inner scarp, intervening fosse and outer bank. The latter is overlain by a field wall from SW through W to NE. Either of two gaps at SE and SSE could be original. Within SE quadrant of the interior, a linear flat-bottomed hollow (L 7.9m, Wth 2.3m), running NNW-SSE, is visible: a possible souterrain. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
