What is recorded here

On a NE-facing slope in rolling grassland. Poorly preserved almost circular rath (E-W 35.5m, N-S 34m) defined by a bank and external fosse; the latter survives only from SE through S to SW. No visible surface trace of the bank survives at NE. Quarries encroach upon the monument at W and SE where a well is present. A field bank radiates from the monument at SW. A small circular earthen mound (D 3.5m) in N section of the interior appears modern. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
