What is recorded here

On a S-facing slope in grassland near the NE limits of Tuam town (GA029-199----). Trapezoidal-shaped graveyard (N-S 47m, E-W 36.5m) enclosed by a modern stone wall. Blocked-up entrance in N wall. Within E half of the interior are a number of small uninscribed limestone uprights. In W half, there are three large N-S running ridges with hollows between them; possibly the site of a mass grave from famine times. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
