What is recorded here

On a rise in grassland. An almost completely levelled circular rath (D 47m). It is now defined by a degraded scarp, with traces of an intervening fosse and outer bank at SE. Aerial reconnaissance in December 1981 (ASGAP 227:7) revealed the presence of a third outer bank. A number of field banks cuts the monument. Within the interior is a souterrain (GA028-042001-). To SW is an extensive field system (GA028-021----). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
