What is recorded here

On S-facing slope overlooking Ballynakill Lough. Known locally as 'Lios na gréine' or 'Lios', this is a very poorly preserved subcircular area (ESE-WNW 41m; NNE-SSW c. 36m) defined by a scarp, intervening fosse and outer bank. The enclosing elements survive only from E through S to W; a modern house occupies N half of the interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
