What is recorded here

On a promontory jutting into E end of Ballynakill Lough. Poorly preserved rectangular enclosure (L 20.6m, Wth 17.5m) defined by a bank of earth and stone on W and S, and by a cliff face on N and E. A rectangular grassed-over stone structure (L 7m, Wth 6.5m) abuts the outer face of the bank at E; possibly the remains of a house (Kinahan 1871, 351). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
