What is recorded here

Recorded by Fisher (2014, 220-21, no. 51 and no. 52, Fig. 7.8), this cross-base (L 0.58m; Wth 0.47m; T 0.07m) of garnet mica-schist was found in the SE corner of the church enclosure (GA021-026021-) on High Island. It had been reused as a building stone within the enclosure wall. A broken tenon (H 0.1m; Wth 0.15m; T 0.2m) was found in situ in the rectangular socket on the slab. The slab was also pierced by a circular tapering hole, which may have been the upper pivot hole of a doorway and, if this is correct, it is likely that it pre-dates the socket. It is possible that this is the base of cross-slab (GA021-026068-). The base is now in the OPW depot on High Island – see GA021-026071- for original location.
