What is recorded here

On a rise in rolling grassland. Known locally as 'Gleesons Fort' (Neary 1914, 115, no. 110), this poorly preserved subcircular rath (E-W 36m) is defined by a bank, no visible surface trace of which survives from SW to WNW. It is cut by a road at SE and SW, and by a field bank at SW and NW. This monument also extends on to OS 30 (GA030-027----). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
