Associated with ringfort (GA017-015----). Nearly (1914, 112, no. 82) notes that 'tradition says a souterrain, with opening a few hundred yards distant on the southern uplands, ran into this rath'. According to local information, people used to enter it through a gap in N part of the garth. It was supposed to exit in the nearby earthwork (GA017-119----) to W. The entrance has long been covered in and no visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'.
