What is recorded here

Close to seashore on N side of the harbour of Inishbofin. The OS 6-inch maps record it as the site of a castle but the OS Letters fail to mention it at all. According to Westropp (1911, 68) 'only a tradition of the site [existed] in 1839'. In the absence of surface features and documentary evidence, its existence and classification must remain uncertain. The site of Guairim's House lay to N (GA009D011----). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'.
