What is recorded here

On a slight rise at the SE end of Inishshark, c. 75m to the NE of ‘Clochan Leo’ (GA009D005----). Named 'Monuments' on the 1938 edition of the OS 6-inch map. A leacht (3m E-W ext.; 2.4m N-S ext., H 0.5m) was identified here in 2008 by Kuijt et al. (2010, 61, 63-4) during the course of fieldwork. It is well preserved and is defined by a number of courses of stone. It is heavily overgrown with vegetation and a large stone with a shallow hollow on its surface is lying on top of it. According to local information, this stone was believed to have curative powers (SMR file). Compiled by: Olive Alcock Updated by: Olive Alcock Date of revised upload: 29 March 2023
