What is recorded here

Within an early ecclesiastical enclosure (GA007-074002-). The OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 70) mention a church called 'Cill O'Mainné' of which 'nothing more than the foundations remain', adding that it was 'more ancient' than that at Ballynakill (GA007-035----) nearby. Though not marked on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map, its 'Site of' is shown on 3rd ed. (1930). No visible surface trace of it or the associated graveyard (also named on map) survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
