A burnt mound located under the S slopes of Three Rock Mountain was archaeologically excavated in 2003. It was located at in a marshy area at a kink in the stream. This horse-shoe shaped mound (L 7.6m, Wth 6.4m, D 0.15m) consisted of fire-cracked granite and charcoal. A sub-rectangular shallow cut or depression (L 1m, Wth 0.8m) was located 1m N of the burnt material. This was filled with fire-cracked stones and charcoal. No trough was present. A fire bowl and a hearth were located 8m to the S. A hearth was uncovered in the vicinity of the fire bowl. Associated with the hearth was a v-shaped structure composed of post-and stake-holes. A disturbed pit containing Early-mid-Bronze age pottery lay nearby (Cryerhall 2006, 162).
