Killiney (Ceall Inghean Léinín/church of the seven daughters of Léinín) monastery was founded in the 6th-century by its patron saint Aighleann and her seven sisters, the daughters of Léinín, who were Machain, Luidhean, Druighean, Luiceall, Rímhtheach, and Brighid. Ó Riain (2011, 57-8) recorded that 'Aighleann reputedly gave birth to three sons of Eacha of Ceinéal Laoghaire (now approximately the Meath baronies of Navan), namely Fiontan of Slanore, Colum (Colmán) of Myshall, and Lughaidh of Teernacreeve. Her feastday and that of her sisters fell on the 6th of March, under the collective name Ingehana Léinín. Her brother Colmán, son of Léinín was patron of the church and diocese of Cloyne (CO088-019006-), Co. Cork and of Kilmaclenine church (CO024-052005-). Her sister Brighid, was patron of Teampall Brighde (CO017-101004-) in Buttevant, Co. Cork and Britway (CO045-08802-), Co. Cork. The medieval church ruins (DU026-013001-) of Killiney and the graveyard (DU026-013002-) stands on the site of this 6th-century monastery.
