Tara Hill, Killiney Martello Tower and Battery No. 7 (Kerrigan 1995, 170). According to Kerrigan (1995, 168) construction of the Dublin area Martello Towers and their batteries commenced in 1804 under the supervision of Colonel Benjamin Fisher of the Royal Engineers and by December 1805 all towers were armed and complete. Kerrigan (ibid., 170) recorded that; ‘The towers and batteries south of Dublin are numbered from 1 to 16, but there were only fourteen towers, as at two locations there were batteries only, while several of the towers were close to adjacent batteries’. Located east of Killiney Hill Road (R119) and is located in an urbanised area of housing. This site dates to post 1700. Tower No. 7 described by Kerrigan (1995, 173) as; 'just under a quarter of a mile inland are tower and battery no. 7, some 250 feet above sea level. Here the tower and battery survive, the three gun battery (of 24-pounders) linked to the tower on the south-east side. Built against the tower and at the rear of the battery is a single-storey structure, covered until recently by a lean-to slate roof. There was access from this building to the first-floor level of the tower by means of a vertical recess within the wall thickness of the tower'.
