What is recorded here

The precise location of a curative well in the townland of Kilgobbin known as the 'Eye Well' has not been identified. In 1837 the Ordnance Survey recorded the following details about this well; 'Close to Kilgobban old church [DU025-016001-) there was a holy well called "The eye well" (the Tobernasool of other churches), but a drain sunk in its neighbourhood removed its spring or rather caused it to disappear. This cannot be shewn on the Maps (Herity 2001, 5). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 8 May 2023

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
