Stone Cross — Kill OF THE Grange

Situated on a low rise, in a green area, NE of Kill Abbey road. Two crosses, one from from the former laneway leading into the graveyard are now held in the OPW depot at Trim, County Meath. The broken ringed cross formed part of the shaft and base of the high cross visible to the N of the church (DU023-015001-) in the graveyard (DU023-015002-) at Kill of the Grange was moved to the OPW depot at Trim, Co. Meath. The second cross (DU023-015008-) now located in the OPW Depot at Trim has the appearance of a Tau cross, the smaller cross head stood in a cross base 100m to the SSW of the church which was moved into the nave of the church by the OPW c. 1970. The two locations of two stone crosses are shown on the historic OSi maps, both of which are annotated 'Stone Cross' in Gothic Script. On the 1863 ed. OSi 25-inch map the first cross location is depicted c. 5m N of the centre of the medieval church (DU023-015001-), immediately N of a pathway running E-W across the N quadrant of the graveyard (DU023-015002-). The second location on the 25-inch map shows the 'Stone Cross' standing c. 100m to the SSW of the medieval church, on the N side of the entrance laneway running up to the graveyard entrance. The crosses were located within a complex which includes a pre-Norman church with a late medieval chancel (DU023-015001-), a graveyard (DU023-015002-), a holy well (DU023-015003-) a bullaun stone (DU023-015007-), two graveslabs (DU023-015005/006-), a stone font (DU023-015009-), the base of a stone cross (DU023-015008-).
