What is recorded here

This rectangular-shaped stone (L 1.6m x Wth 0.95m x H 0.55m) has been moved to its present location on a green area in front of Ballinteer Shopping Centre, Co. Dublin. The original location of this rock is unknown. The surface of the stone has four-circular-shaped cup-marks  (diam. 6-8cm x D 3cm) on the surface of the stone standing on a green area between the car-park and the public road (Ballinteer Avenue). The antiquity of this stone is uncertain and there is evidence of stone cutting marks on the sides of the stone which may suggest that these cup-marks are related to stone working rather than prehistoric art, but this is uncertain.    Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien based on details provided by Martin Fitzmaurice
