The1837 OS 6-inch map shows Milltown Castle on the present site of Mount St. Anne Convent. A lease dated 1725 in the Registry of Deeds (Book 44, f351, No 29734) refers to the castle of Miltown and the new dwelling house. Fitzachary (1901) describes an earlier visit to Milltown Castle, which he found to be in good repair. He describes it as 'a castellated mansion with an arched 'guardroom', an 'old stone staircase' and walls 'five feet thick' (News and the Dublin Lantern, Dec 14, 1901). No visible trace.

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
