What is recorded here

Located inside the entrance gates to a house on Whitehall road. It backs onto Rathfarnham Golf course. Comprises a tapered stone building encircled by a winding staircase. Apparently erected by a Major Hall who built Whitehall House (Ball 1903, II, 134-135). Sommerville-Large (1936) describes that 'Hall's Barn' was built as a folly to provide employment for the poor following the famine of 1738. It was modelled on a barn erected by the Connolly family in Castletown County Kildare. Built in 1742. Compiled by Geraldine Stout Date of upload: 25th April 2012
